The Energy Master Plan is a macro-scale assessment that prepares the community and governing body for responsible and sustainable energy development.
The town or institution should know and understand all options available to it. There is ample opportunity to develop community-owned renewable energy projects within the town or university, and then for private companies to develop responsible projects. Opportunities are expansive in this field, and a multitude of project structures/models have been created in the past to foster appropriate and fair alternative energy development.
Often, our client communities and institutions will work the plan into a long-term master plan or community vision. Towns have worked these zones of appropriate development into their land use code as development overlay districts.
The Energy Master Plan includes, but is not always limited to:
- A wide overview of the renewable energy resource
- Identification of Appropriate Zones for Development
- Identification of all potential impacts
- Suggestions on zoning and ordinance issues
- A clear plan of action for allowing development to occur
- Logistical issues; power transmission, financing, etc.
- Master Plans often include full General Resource Assessment (GRA)
