Questions on the Obama Stimulus Package
Posted on January 10, 2009 under Emergent News, Energy Politics & Policy,
Some questions that I have on the proposed Obama Economic Stimulus Package, which lacks so much detail at this point, are as follows:
- Will “green energy” funds be available to all alternative energy companies, or just those with the biggest lobbying voice in Washington?
- Can we expect new subsidies in Renewable Energy Credits (REC), causing REC prices to rise, and support more alternative energy development?
- What funds will be allocated to sustainable mass transit?
- How much will unsustainable highway projects get?
- Will there be a focus on community energy or more centralized, industrial-scale alternative energy development?
- Will the plan favor one technology over the other, or give more of a blanket approach for all technologies?
The list of questions is enormous. We will likely see more details emerge as we get closer to the House, Senate, and White House acting on such a stimulus plan. The alternative energy industry is either poised to create a more sustainable job boom, or simply make the huge, multinational firms more wealthy.
