Lending a Hand and an Ear, Emergent’s Community Wind Development

Wednesday evening marked another successful illustration of Emergent Energy Group’s integrated approach to renewable energy development through community involvement. Cohasset, Massachusetts residents convened at the Paul Pratt Memorial Library to hear presentations regarding the proposed construction of two 1.65 megawatt wind turbines on the Graham Waste Services site. The wind project is a private venture both in capital raised and land leased, but it seeks to address the present concerns of the citizens and future needs of the municipality.

The Emergent team produced detailed images clarifying issues such as turbine placement and visibility, shadow flicker, and sound disturbance. Emergent’s state-of-the-art, proprietary blend of software was used to optimize the site considering power output, shadow and noise disturbance, and additional factors. Residents demonstrated active, informed, and predominately enthusiastic participation in the town meeting during fruitful Q&A with the presenters. Andrew Willard, Cohasset’s Alternative Energy Committee (AEC) Commissioner, positively commented on negotiations to provide electricity to the town’s municipal buildings once the turbines are operational. Emergent Energy Group looks forward to continued work with Cohasset and other New England communities seeking a progressive solution to our nation’s energy crisis.
